This site is designed as a study aid for professional sailors who are studying for sailing examinations at Day Skipper, Day Skipper Coastal, and Yachtmaster level. The theory and regulations of sailing can be difficult to memorize. As part of learning how to sail, it is vital to learn and memorize Day Shapes: mast head signals; Navigation Lights (‘Navlights’ for short); Sound Signals; and Collision Regulations (‘ColRegs’ for short).
How to use the site: Take a look at each section - the symbols for the day shapes, navigation lights, sound signals and collision regulations. All four areas will be on your exam, and it's simply good seamanship to know these by heart. Once you feel confident you know the meaning of all the symbols, you can test your knowledge at the ‘Test Your Skills’ section.
